The Art and Politics of COVID-19: Online Conference Day 2/ Panel 6
The focus of Panel 6 for this conference, was the range of Pandemic Cartoons circulating in mainstream and social media. The speakers from University of Lagos and University of Nigeria Nsukka, alongside renown cartoonist Albert Ohams (The Brush) illustrated how humour is used as a device to offer subversive political critique and commentary during these hard times. In the presentation Humour in a Time of Horror: Articulating Politics during COVID Times in Nigeria by Dr. Ganiyu Jimoh from the University of Lagos we were able to consider how these aesthetic devices play out with a semiological approach to reading the images.
Framing the Rhetoric of Moral Justice and Governance in Nigeria in COVID-19 related political cartoons' by George Odoh, Chijioke Onuora & Nneka Odoh, University of Nigeria Nsukka.
